I’m not sure where to start really…I like to do A LOT of research before trips, and a big drawcard for me is eco tourism. I seek out places that are not only conscious about our dying planet, but that actually do something about it! That’s what initially drew me to Eden bay lodge. From the start, dealing with Tracy with my millions of questions, it was seamless and professional and I could tell immediately that this would be something special… Fast forward to our arrival – I made the mistake of not reading their very clear instructions to NOT FOLLOW THE GPS… Big mistake, we got stuck in the sand on the wrong road to nowhere. I panicked, being my first time to Mozambique and called The lodge… and hey presto, they came to our rescue and showed us the right route (that I should have followed in the first place) to our new home from home. Ah, the views and privacy and warm hospitality we have had in the past few days have been of a calibre that I really haven’t experienced often. Paul and his team pour the kind of genuine love into the lodge that can’t be faked, nothing is a problem and they gladly assisted with any request we had! We opted for self catering, but I tell you, the smells coming out of the kitchen as we walked by from our beach swims were amazing! There was an all inclusive package with all meals included which I will definitely take next time, dinner tables are set out in the garden with lanterns lit… Simply magical! I also have to mention the private beach, we walked down to “Marula Beach” early on our first morning and what lay before us was out of a coffee table book… We just felt spoilt rotten! This has been one of our most memorable holidays and we can’t wait to come back with some family for another spoil. Thank you Paul, Tracy and your wonderful team… You guys have made this one of the best holidays I have ever had!

What an amazing time we had with Paul and Augustine!!!  The effort they put in was amazing! We’ve been to the Islands before, but Paul and his team really made our encounters worth while.  While at 2 Mile someone from another boat almost drowned, Paul and his team picked the guy up, brought him back to safety.  We thought that was amazing, we really felt very safe and well taken care of!  He showed us all the best snorkelling sports and great places around the islands to see and swim! Our friends and family all had a fabulous time!!!  Thanks Team.

Truly a great little secluded oasis with stunning views over the arquipelago. Glamping at it’s finest, with a lot of attention to small eco-sensitive detail. Tracy, Paul and their team went out of their way to accommodate all our needs! We opted for full-board and the food was delicious, served right at the deck of our spacious tent. A great experience, we will be back!

March 2019

After a week in the bush of Mozabmique’s interior and a journey from Pafuri to the coast via the Parque National do Banhine on some tracks that had not been used for years, Eden Bay was a very welcome place to adjust back to the comforts of home and more.

I had been walking around the bush in the Limpopo Valley near Mapai for a few days, then investigation new wild camp sites in the Bahine National Park by vehicle.  Much time was spent sliding underneath my 4×4 clearing out grass and thorn bushes to prevent the whole thing from going up in smoke.  And so while I resembled the armpit of a hyena, but with a stronger smell, I was welcomed by the staff at Eden Bay with really amazing friendliness and respect.  I spent two days here and the service, find and attention from owner/manager Paul Saayman and his really special staff almost convinced me to cancel the rest of my trip.  So, I will be back….

The Indian Ocean at its best.  The lodge carries its name perfectly…a slice of Earthly Paradise…

After having visited Mozambique for the first time last year, spending a beautiful 10 days in Guinjata bay, we decided to return to Moz to discover the 5 Islands of Bazaruto. We struck gold again finding a place to call home, run by passionate, professional and wonderful people.  Glamping at its best, wake up in peaceful surroundings to a panoramic view of the archipelago with colours constantly changing as the sun rises and tides change whilst on or off shore breezes waft clouds away…your worries with them.  Tuck into eggs and bacon, and a fresh fruit salad prepared by 5 star Michelin Sammi whilst you take your time to decide which unspoilt, truly heavenly island you would like to visit today.  As all beach, fishing and snorkelling gear is provided, with no more than a book, sunscreen and camera in hand, embark on a 21foot new boat with Benthu and Augustino for your day Island hopping, these guys know the islands like the inside of their pockets!.  Dolphins, turtles, outstanding reefs await, keep your eyes peeled for bird activity during the short crossing, a quick cast could land you a nice tuna!  A picnic lunch or brad will be served in the shade as you contemplate just how lucky you are, releasing that there was no need t bring your book.   You decided to take a day off from boating today? Chill at the pristine beach at the lodge under one of the niche parasols, watch the Dow’s, local fisherman or children play.  Try the pool, chaises loungers or hammocks too, wilt you wonder what delicacy Chef Sam is preparing for you tonight.  After a nice meal served with your favourite chilled SA wine (yes this is Glamping, you have your own fridge!) relax to the sound of life winding down, the bush waking up and re-live your day spent in Paradise.  Tune in and drop out.

Thank you to everyone at Eden Bay for looking after us so well, for the quality of your lodge and hospitality, making an 8 night holiday as beneficial as a months rest.

Eden Bay eco lodge is nestled on top of a dune just outside the hustle and bustle of Vilanculos. Spectacular views of 4 of the archipelago islands.

The tent accommodation is luxurious and offered everything we expected. Our host was more than willing to cater to our whims and needs and made the stay

a most memorable one. Highly recommended to the family that want to get “out of Africa” experiences and build a lifetime of “wows”.

We have just returned from Eden Bay eco Lodge where a group of us “oldies” all over 60, spent the last 9 days.  We were fetched from the airport by Paul and driven approximately 8km to the Lodge.  The lodge is set in a neat and tidy garden situated on a cliff looking out towards the Azure sea.  All tents have magnificent views and are well appointed.  There is a lovely pool also with spectacular views.  The food is simply but very tasty and prepared by the ever smiling Sammy.  His chicken and fish dishes are a must! We fished or went to one of the Islands in the Bazaruto Archipelago on most days and the crew looked over us wonderfully ensuring our comfort at all times.  Thank you Aug, Ben and AI.  Paul supplied all the fishing gear and it is only the best and in excellent condition.  Garden staff and cleaning staff are also extremely helpful.  The beach is approximately 80m down from the Lodge but it is a little bit of a climb coming back up, but as mentioned us oldies managed it just fine.

Paul is an outstanding host always ready to help, give advice and to see to all our needs, doing much more than we expected.  If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, I recommend this Lodge with no hesitation and as far as we are concerned, exceptional value for money.

We had a lovely 10days at Eden Bay, snorkelling and fishing and sitting by the sea. We had a self-catering unit, getting fresh fish and prawns and crabs from the local fishermen and women to cook each day. The units are clean and have everything you need, with an AMAZING team of staff to help you out in anyway at all. Spectacular views to watch the tides come in and out – we watched the full moon rise over the sea which was beautiful! Eden Bay is on a much quieter bit of beach than much of Vilankulos, with wonderful shaded bomas for guests to use. We had a lovely holiday exploring the coral reefs and the islands and our two young boys didn’t want to come home!!

August 2019

We had a fantastic stay at Eden Bay Eco Lodge.  Paul and his staff were amazing and we had the best service/hospitality/views.  All of it was just amazing.  The staff was great and the best team ever we had such a great time with them and enjoyed their friendliness and helpfulness so much.  We had so much fun with the kayaks down at the beach where we also met the cutest dog friend ever.  He was our dog during our stay.  We named him Russel as we didn’t know his name.  Every morning Russel was waiting at the beach for us.  Our accommodation was awesome.  It was our first glamping experience and it was spectacular.

Thanks to Paul, Sammy, Augustino, Bentu, Ilda and Bernard, amazing TEAM.

Our trip to Eden Bay Eco Lodge was my gift to hubby for his 50th.  Paul and Tracey were incredibly helpful from the time I started planning 2 years ago and paid the deposit.  We chose self catering and took our own boat.  Nothing was too much trouble fo Paul and his team.  Skippers sourced, boat and fishing licenses sorted, bread collected for me.  The setting is out of this world, accommodation private but areas that allow for mingling.  We were blessed with glorious weather and had an epic holiday.  Thanks to all at Eden Bay Eco Lodge.  We will be back!!!

Paradise overlooking the Bazaruto archipelago”
 2 Dec 2019  ineu12, Essen, Germany
After a two-month self-drive journey through Zambia and Malawi, we found the most beautiful, paradisiacal place in Eden Bay Lodge, to let the soul dangle before returning home to everyday life. For six days we were pampered by Paul and his team. Thank you, Paul, for the incredibly beautiful tours to the Bazaruto Archipelago, the perfect organization, the advice, the weather forecasts and the evenings with whiskey and wine. The coastline is one of the most beautiful we have discovered along the coast, the Bazaruto gem is within sight – and for all this no overpriced luxury lodge needs to be booked. There is the Garden of Eden in the Eden Bay Lodge. Here are a few facts: the en-suite tents are modern, brand new and well equipped kitchen area. You can reach them via beautifully laid wooden walkways. Each tent has a terrace overlooking the Indian Ocean, which offers an infinite play of colors in all shades of color between blue, turquoise and sand – depending on the tide. In a small pool, you can refresh yourself or relax on loungers laid-back. The way to the beach is short but a bit steep. The beach itself is endless. Local fishermen go about their work, with which one can hold a small chat in a relaxed way. There are no intrusive beach vendors. The lodge includes two new boats. The excursions to the archipelago are highly recommended – beautiful landscapes, great animal encounters, mystical underwater worlds. After two months of cooking ourselves, we switched to full board at EdenBay Lodge. And we did not regret that: fresh fruit, yoghurt, eggs & Co. for breakfast, salad, steak or sandwiches for lunch and fresh fish, pasta with crab meat or king prawns for dinner. And sometimes in the afternoon there were some hot, crispy samosas by the pool or on our deck. The fact that the lodge really welcomes guests with Self Catering proves not only the well-equipped kitchen, but also the fact that you actually have to bring your own drinks. But that is not a problem. In Vilankulo there is a well-stocked supermarket. By the way, Vilanculo can be reached very well from the south. The streets of Maputo to the north are very good.

December 2018

We spent a fantastic week at Eden Bay Eco Lodge in mid December. Paul and his staff are amazing and really made our stay an absolute pleasure. The location is unbeatable with incredible views of the Bazaruto  Archipelago and we had the whole beach to ourselves. Samuel was our personal chef for our stay and the food was superb. Augustino and Bento were our skippers for our fishing, island and snorkelling excursions and know the islands exceptionally well. We were lucky enough to not only see one Dugong, but three in one day. With a spot like this so easily accessible from SA and for such great value for money there really is no need to venture to what may appear to be more exotic island locations.

I have just been to Vilanculos and can vouch for Paul Saayman a Eden Bay Eco Lodge.  Top class set-up and the best boats to go island hopping on.

Rob Spear

Thank you Paul it was the best trips we have done in Mozambique.  You and your team’s knowledge of the coast was clearly noted by everyone on the trips.

The build up on scenery/snorkeling was the best way to approach the three days.  Everyone was made at ease at Magaruque and from there everyone felt comfortable with the deeper waters.

After successfully navigating through the washing machine and saving that other poor man’s life you guys were our heroes….

What an amazing 3 days we had with Paul and Augustino!!!!  The effort they put in was amazing! Definitely the most beautiful spot in Vilankulo, we had our own secluded beach a stones throw from our tented chalet.  Lovely pool area overlooking the exquisite views.  Our chalet was equipped with everything that we needed, the staff were super helpful and friendly.  We bar hopped, beach hopped, saw dolphins, came across a pansy shell, burnt ourselves to smithereens, most memorable holiday every, will definitely be back.

HUGEST thanks to Paul & Kyle!!! Mike & I can never thank you enough for really going the extra mile and organising our very own Private Charter out to Bazaruto Island especially at the very last minute. So accommodation, patient & professional! We will most definitely be recommending your services and we will also be back for another visit.

April 2018

We didn’t get to stay at the lodge while it was still under construction, but I can certainly say that the site, after getting a tour of it, is a stunning site! Having seen the plans, etc, and now seeing the pictures of the final product, we’;; definitely be making a trip back! As for the folks of Eden Bay, Paul has found a bunch of diamonds to work with him. Friendly, helpful, courteous are just a few words that can be spoken of the team that will be taking care of you. The fishing and snorkelling was fantastic. The boats available are top class. The interaction between client and crew….WORLD CLASS 5 Star!!

Arrived safely back home. Time flies when you enjoy yourself. Had a good fishing and amazing snorkelling experience around the Bazaruto Archipelago. Thanks to Paul Saayman and Bazaruto Encounters crew.

What an unforgettable experience! We wanted to make a 14th birthday boy happy … and wow!!! He was still whispering “ooh’s” and “ahh’s” before he fell asleep last night … exhausted after island hopping, fishing (a special treat), dolphin watching, snorkelling at 2 mile reef and the best boat trip ever … thank you is such a small world to try and express our gratitude for making all of this happen. Paul, you and Augustino made “for ever” memories in our hearts yesterday … especially Giovanni’s and Layla’s. We can recommend your company to all!!!

November 2018

In November 2018, we were traveling on a self-drive tour of Mozambique and have experienced some hotels and lodges. All good and recommendable through the bank – but what we experienced in the EDEN BAY ECO LODGE surpasses everything. Beautiful, located above the beach, here you have a great view of the sea. The environment is well maintained and decorated with love. As for the service, we can not stop swarming. Samuel, the cook of the lodge, fulfills every wish. Rarely have we eaten as well and delicious as it did with him. In general, the entire team around the EDEN BAY ECO LODGE and of course Paul, the owner, must be given a big compliment. We have never experienced such good service. We felt right at home and can only recommend this lodge. Thank you again PAUL and the rest of the team – you made Vilanculos unforgettable for us.

Best regards Sarah & Rouven

Eden Bay Eco Lodge is located a few kilometres north of Vilanculos. Wonderful glamping on the hillside, with the sea below and stunning views of Bazaruto Islands. These high quality robust tents comes with yor own kitchen, bathroom and shower. Excellent option for visiting the archepelago with safe boat-trips, for snorkelling, fishing or just having a day by the sea visiting the islands, with a picnic. The staff is just what you wish for! Friendly, helpful and service-minded. Tired of cooking? The chef, Saab, serves delicous meals right outside your front-door on your own terrace. Saab’s cooking is gorgeous! Bring your own drinks, not waterbottles! If arriving or leaving by plane at Vilanculos airport, the lodge arranges transport. There is a nice cute pool for a dip and sunbeds under a shadetarp. Highly recommended, perfect choice for us!!
